When it comes to getting online stuff done for you, are you prepared to pay for professional expertise or do you just want a miracle worker on the cheap? Heads up! Such angels don’t exist and even if they did, they are a false economy and today’s show explains why.

Nicola’s guest for the third of five shows during Judith’s August holiday is Susan Weeks, and she brings today’s challenge to the podcast, all about working effectively with outsourcing and project management and teams.

In the Show…

Nicola’s co-host, Susan Weeks, has just returned from a week in Tenerife with her teenage son. Nicola’s enjoyed a holiday-type week too, although she’s been working in a heatwave. She’s been out and about enjoying some Greek music called Repetikos which she is looking forward to sharing with her DJ son Nelson when he visits Stoupa.

  • What’s Fuelled Their Fire?

Susan’s fire was fuelled the week before her holiday by launching her own podcast, Stitchery Stories, which is about textile art. She’s loving knowing that there have been 650 downloads including in far flung places like Tasmania, and she’s gathered her first couple of good reviews too.

Nicola’s fire has been stoked by her relatively new annual memberships attracting a quality of client who she feels may be more actively engaged with her content and their learning, and she’s happy to report an energetic shift of her own around being ready to commit to clients for a year.

  • Client Challenge of the Week

Nicola and Susan debate the challenges and opportunities, the traps to avoid and the positive things to do instead when it comes to working with an online project manager, a VA or more than one, and anyone who will help you grow your business. They advocate you stop trying to do everything yourself, particularly things you are not good at and they explain how you are robbing your business of profits by so doing.

The frustrations and delights of outsourcing are many and various but surmountable with a little understanding and joined-up thinking, the sort an organised pro brings to your work instead of you or alongside you and working together as a team. Susan talked about finding a qualified VA at VAClassroom.com

  • Words of the Week

Susan chose Unplugged, and Nicola picked Structure.

  • Project Updates

Susan’s launching a lot of new projects in September, but not until after the school holidays finish for her at the end of this month. Nicola’s delighted that Own It! is back in the iTunes What’s Hot charts at #75 and is very thankful for all the reviews listeners have posted to make that happen.

  • Who or What’s Impressed?

Susan was impressed by Siam Water Park in Playa de las Americas in Tenerife. And Nicola by Great Courses from The Teaching Company; check out Great Courses Plus for $20 a month which you can cancel anytime.

  1. Been a while since I heard a proper Yorkshire accent! A fun treat on this show. When I lived in England one of our housemates was from Bradford. At first I could barely understand her, but now whenever I heard a Yorkshire brogue I think back fondly.
