Worried about lack of money and/or debts? Financial fears keeping you awake? Perfectly normal, it goes with the territory of being self-employed. Here are some tips.
In the Show..
This week Judith & Nicola talk about adventures, restlessness and fear. Fears about lack of money and about the state of the world, inspiration to go on adventures and post-holiday restlessness giving rise to plans for living and working in the sunshine.
- What’s Fuelled Their Fire?
Nicola is inspired by ep 20 of The Startup Chat podcast with heroes Hiten Shah and Steli Efti about What Motivates Founders? And Judith is inspired by leisure reading on her kindle during her holiday downtime, about which more later.
- Client Challenge of the Week
This week’s client challenge is all around financial fears, fears of having no money or debts you cannot pay, fear of lack. What happens when you run out of money, do you go bankrupt? No! What happens if you cannot pay your bills? Time to toughen up and learn that sometimes this goes with the territory. Listen to N&J’s experiences, how nothing really bad happens, how your poor credit repairs itself in time and how the money always appears from somewhere, and how that’s more likely if you are self-employed. There’s no shame in debt.
- N&J Project Updates
Judith teaches Nicola more about Matched Betting, and Nicola describes “client wobbles” as she contemplates moving towards creating software as a system (SaaS).
- Words of the Week
Nicola chooses Boundaries, often a struggle, and Judith picks Adventure, inspired by Mike McIntyre’s book The Kindness of Strangers: Penniless Across America.
- Who or What’s Impressed?
Nicola is impressed by daughter Phoebe as she takes her first steps up the management rung, becoming a licensee at the pub where she works, investing £1,000 of her own money into a new laptop and pitching to become the pub’s social media manager. Judith, still excited by others’ adventures, is impressed by all the colleagues and clients she knows house-sitting all around the world, enjoying their own mini-adventures and learning to become comfortable with a degree of discomfort.
