This week Nicola and Judith debate choosing your niche, picking a market for your business and/or an ideal client. But how do you choose? And what if you can’t yet?
In the Show..
Nicola’s arrived in Stoupa after what felt like the longest journey ever. She and Sarah have set up home, been swimming and started to establish a daily habit of 8,000 steps walked to and from the village for supplies and socialising. Judith’s had a haircut, done some hoovering and made some home-made soup, all the aitches. She’s mirroring Nicola’s real sun (27 degrees anticipated this coming weekend) by cranking up the central heating and working with the window open in what remains of the UK’s autumnal sunshine.
- What’s Fuelled Their Fire?
Judith’s had a lovely private message from Daphne Kapsali and Nicola’s answer is “nothing yet”, still settling into her new home and workplace routines.
- Client Challenge of the Week
Judith brings one she knows Nicola has been playing with herself recently, that of choosing your niche. Every bit of start-up advice says choose your niche, identify your market and your ideal customer. But what if you can’t? What if you are not ready to choose yet? Judith shares a quote from Jane Goodall “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make”.
- Words of the Week
Nicola chooses Hospitality to Strangers (in Greek!) and Judith chooses Portfolio.
- Project Updates – all about the Podcast
Judith has been trying (and failing so far) to easily pull power quotes out of each weekly episode as she listens to the recording before it goes live. And N&J have been sharing show notes as Facebook Notes and sharing again some of the older and more popular episodes and will keep up the focus on implementing their podcast marketing ideas.
- Who or What’s Impressed?
Judith is impressed by loyal listener Irene, specifically her memes on Facebook for her new membership site which is called The Employer Toolbox. They address all the pains of being an employer, some of which are very familiar indeed.
Nicola let Judith have two this week and so her second one is a couple of questions from the Five-Minute Journal (mentioned last week) which have proved particularly effective for Judith and for one of her clients, a like mind. The questions triggering action are:
- What would make today great (asked in the morning)?
- How could I have made today even better (asked in the evening)? Note the emphasis on the word “I”.
